Newport News, Va. – A man accidentally shot himself in the leg on Tuesday in Newport News.
Dispatch received calls about the incident that occurred on Colony Road.
When officers arrived, they found a Yorktown man, 55, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his right thigh.
He said he had just gotten into his vehicle when the incident happened.
He was trying to take the gun out of the holster when his finger hit the trigger causing it to discharge.
His son heard the shot and gave the man medical treatment until medics arrived.
The man was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
