LOS ANGELES – Garry Shandling, a comedian best known for his work in “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and “The Larry Sanders Show,” has died, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed.

TMZ first reported Shandling’s death Thursday, stating that he died in a Los Angeles hospital.

“The 66-year-old star was not suffering from any illness … as far as we know … so, it appears this was sudden. A source connected to Shandling says he was healthy and speaking to people on Thursday morning,” TMZ stated.

Shandling wore many hats in the entertaining industry, including writing for sitcoms such as “Sanford and Son” and “Welcome Back, Kotter.” He frequently guest hosted “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and created “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” for Showtime before “The Larry Sanders Show” on HBO.
