Manama, Bahrain – A Marine jet was severely damaged after it caught fire on the USS Kearsarge in the Persian Gulf.
This happened last week on March 8th at 1 p.m.
According to stripes.com, the jet was being prepared for takeoff from the amphibious assault ship to support Operation Inherent Resolve.
Firefighters on the Kearsarge helped the pilot out of the jet. The fire was out within minutes.
No one was injured.
The jet was badly damaged after the fire.
They are labeling this a Class A mishap. Officials say this is the 4th mishap of this kind during the fiscal year.
There are questions of whether or now budget cuts could be a cause of these kinds of problems.
This incident is now under investigation.
