Hampton, Va. – Police have arrested a teenager in connection with a shooting Saturday afternoon.
Officers were called to the 2000 block of Nickerson Boulevard around 3:30 p.m.
When police officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Investigators say the incident was not a random act of violence. The suspect and victim knew each other and agreed to meet in a wooded area behind Nickerson Plaza Shopping Center. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times.
The victim is still in the hospital and in stable condition.
A 16-year-old boy from Hampton was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding and one count of use of firearm in commission of a felony. He remains in custody at a juvenile detention center.
The motive and additional circumstances still remain under investigation.
