Newport News, Va.- Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday morning.
According to police, a 39-year-old man was in a parking lot with friends at 5832 Jefferson Avenue just before 2 a.m. when he stepped away to take a phone call.
While on the phone, the man heard a gunshot and was hit in the chest.
He was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police have not released any information on a suspect.
