Southampton County, Va. – A crash involving two vehicles has resulted in the death of an 81-year-old woman.

Southampton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash on Main Street Courtland near an intersection with Rochelle Street around 5:12 p.m.

Alice Ricks, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say the two vehicles collided head-on after the car Ricks was driving crossed the center line of the road. Officials say Ricks was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. There were no passengers with her in the car.

The driver of the second vehicle and a juvenile passenger were taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Authorities say they were both wearing seat belts.

Deputies say neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, but there was heavy rain in the area at the time of the collision.

It is unknown what caused Ricks’ car to cross the center line.
