Sussex County, Va. – The driver involved in a single vehicle crash Sunday morning has died.
State police received a call around 11 a.m. for a vehicle accident at the 10000 block of Birch Allen Road in Sussex County.
Police say a 1997 Chrysler Concord was traveling eastbound speeding, when it ran off of the road and struck a tree.
The driver of the car, 74-year-old Nancy Smith, died at the scene. Smith was not wearing a seat belt.
The passenger, Victor Crumpler, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say speed and icy road conditions were a contributing factor in the accident.
