Norfolk, Va. - A 9-year-old girl is using her New Year's resolution as a way to help girls in need all across Hampton Roads.

Gianni Graham has set a goal to collect 1,000 Barbie's for 1,000 girls in foster homes and shelters. While she knows that having clothing and food is important, she also knows how important it is to have a friend when going through an uncertain time.

"I feel like girls in shelters should have the same as girls not in shelters," said Graham.

Along with each doll, she plans to write a letter to each of the girls, hoping to bring them some added comfort.

"I wanted to inspire them and give them encouragement."

Graham has already started to collect dolls. She currently have five dolls. Two of them were her own Christmas gifts, but instead of playing with these dolls, she's putting them towards her goal.

Although she has a great start, Graham needs help collecting the dolls. If you would like to help, you can email her mother, Whitney at beautiesandbusiness@gmail.com or reach out to her on Instagram at 1kbarbiesfor1kgirls.
