Police searching for gunman in shooting and attempted robbery in Hampton

Hampton, Va. – Hampton Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the gunman in an attempted robbery and shooting that happened Sunday morning.

Police responded to a report of shots fired in the first block of Salem Street at 3:09 a.m., but did not find a victim.

As officers were investigating, Public Safety Communications received a call that a gunshot victim had arrived at Sentara Careplex Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was outside of a home when he was approached by an unknown man whom demanded money at gunpoint. The man shot the victim and fled the scene without any money.

The suspect is described as a black male, dark complexion, approximately 5’9-5’10 and 160-170 pounds.
