Woman dies in two-vehicle crash in Williamsburg

Posted

Williamsburg, Va. – A 63-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Windsormeade Way in Williamsburg on Tuesday afternoon.

James City County Police say they responded to the crash around 2:00 p.m.

The victim, 63-year-old Nena Lopez Abernathy, was driving a 1991 Honda Prelude. Abernathy had stopped the vehicle at a stop sign near the Martin’s gas station and then proceeded across Windsormeade Way to enter the shopping center.

It was then that Abernathy’s vehicle was hit on the driver’s side by a 2000 Toyota pickup truck that was headed toward Monticello Avenue.

Abernathy was transported by ambulance to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as an 80-year-old man. He was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Speed was not a factor.

The crash remains under investigation but no charges are expected to be filed.
