Man shot in his car in Newport News, police now looking for second suspect

Newport News, Va. – Police are looking for the second suspect in connection with a shooting in the area of 79th Street and Roanoke Avenue.

On November 6, police responded to a report of gunshots in the area at 2:15 a.m. They found numerous shell casings but did not locate a victim.

At about 3:30 A.M. a 25-year-old gunshot victim was reported at Sentara CarePlex Hospital.

The man, who suffered a non-life threatening wound, told officers that he had been shot while in his car.

Police say there were two suspects involved in this crime. The first suspect, 18-year-old Ryan Ray Taybron, was arrested earlier by Hampton Police.  He is now being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.

Police are still looking for the second suspect, Eric Larnell Nixon, Jr. His last known location is in the first block of Wells Court in Hampton.

Taybron and Nixon are both charged with one count each of malicious wounding, attempt to commit a felony and discharging a fire in a public place. They’re charged with two counts each use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting into a vehicle and five counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.
