NewsChannel 3 holds Taking Action Help Line for free breast cancer screenings

NewsChannel 3, along with Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, is taking action in the fight against breast cancer.

On Wednesday, we opened our phone lines for women who wanted to get free breast screenings.

Fundsraised through the Chesapeake Bra-ha-ha Show and Auction generates funds to provide mammograms and related breast care services for under and uninsured women in southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.

Facts About Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 225,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women this year. In addition, more than 63,000 new cases of carcinoma in situ will be diagnosed. These are non‐invasive, but are an early form of breast cancer. There are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
