Missing mother’s memorial taken down

Posted

Portsmouth, Va. - It has been four months since Katie Barham, a Portsmouth mother of two, disappeared while doing a load of laundry in her apartment complex. Now her memorial has vanished, too.

According to a Facebook post in the "Bring Katie Barham Home" page, last week the memorial was taken down, shocking many of Barham's friends and family.

"I just couldn't believe that one day it was there and the next it was gone," explained Kristy Sajko. "I've just never heard of such a thing. It just kind of shocked me."

The memorial was made shortly after police identified a body found in the woods behind Barham's home as hers. To honor Barham's memory, loved ones laid a cross, flowers and other heartwarming mementos to remember her by.

The memorial had grown over the months since Barham's death,  as more and more people came to site to remember her, but now all of the items are gone.

Barham's friends and family have placed many calls to try and find out who took the memorial down and why. NewsChannel 3 will continue to take action and help figure out who is responsible.
