Newport News, Va. – Four apartments are condemned after a fire broke out inside of a Newport News apartment building on Monday night, damaging the electrical system.

This occurred at the Mariners Landing Apartments in the 400 block of Crescent Way.

Calls came in at 9:39 p.m. about an electrical problem.

When crews arrived, they found that a fire was burning within a wall where the electrical panel box was located.

The fire spread to the second floor apartment.

Fire damage was contained to two apartments and four apartments total were condemned. Several walls and ceilings were opened to ensure the fire was completely out.

Dominion Virginia Power pulled two additional electrical meters because of the extent of damage.

Eight people were displaced by the fire and six requested help from the Red Cross.

Officials are still trying to access the damage.

No one was injured.
