Newport News, Va. – A woman was shot in the face in her home Tuesday night. Her husband has now been arrested and charged.
Just before 11:30 p.m. police received a call from a man about an accidental shooting at a residence in the 500 block of Mikes Lane.

When officers arrived, they found a 53-year-old woman inside who had been shot in the face. The victim was taken to an area hospital. Her injury was non-life threatening.
The victim’s 55-year-old husband, identified as Lewis Powell, was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm.
Police say an investigation revealed Powell and his wife had been drinking and handling the gun when it discharged and struck the wife in the face.
Homicide detectives are investigating to determine what led to the shooting.
