Virginia Beach, Va. - A man and a woman had to be taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon following a shooting in Virginia Beach. Police believe this is a home invasion-robbery.

The incident happened in the 5600 block of Baker Court in Dove Landing Apartments. Police responded to the scene at 2:06 p.m.

A man and woman were shot inside the residence.

Police say there were two armed men involved who were wearing masks. They have not released a full description.

Court documents say the two men demanded money and pills from the victims before the incident turned violent.

According to court documents, the woman was shot in the face. She was rushed to the hospital and her injuries were considered life-threatening. Her prognosis was later upgraded and she was said to be in good condition.

The man was reportedly pistol-whipped by one of the suspects. He was also shot in the hands, court documents say.

When police later searched the apartment, court documents say they looked for clues like fingerprints, DNA and shell casings. They also looked for pills. The court documents do not, however, list what was found.

Bryanna Dent lives nearby and says she knows the woman who was shot, but can't explain why it happened. "I do not know, honey. I honestly do not. I wish I did," she said. "It's scary like my heart is still pumping."

Neighbors say the apartment place is usually quiet. "It's devastating. I mean you hear of it everyday, but you never know that it's right here in your own backyard," said Robin Church.

No other details have been released.
