Waverly, Va. – A fire at a Waverly tire facility has now been extinguished.
Sussex County Public Safety Coordinator Eddie Vick tells NewsChannel 3 that a pile of ground up tires at the Emanuel Tire Company caught fire.
The piles of tires are supposed to be turned regularly but this particular piled hadn’t been turned in several weeks, Vick says. This likely contributed to the start of the fire.
Crews worked to spray the fire with water, cover it with dirt, turn the pile and then repeat the process until the fire was fully extinguished.
The fire was fully out by 9:00 a.m.
