Newport News, Va. - He was trying to hook up with an escort he found on backpage.com, known for its racy ads. But that meet-up ended with a bullet in his brain.

It all happened on July 14th. A Newport News Police search warrant says the two arranged to meet at the Warwick Townhouses along Savage Drive. When he drove up to the address he was given and got out of his car, who he saw was not who he expected.

The warrant says two black men walked out from behind the complex ordering him to "stop" and "get on the ground."  Instead he ran off, jumping in his car.

Moments later, neighbors say they heard three gunshots, one of them hitting the man on the right side of his head, a fragment lodged in his brain.

Even with a bullet in his head, neighbors say he managed to drive away, hitting several cars in the parking lot, then making a right onto Sharon Drive.

He finally came to a stop at the end of the street, hitting a road sign.

Both shooters managed to get away, but police say they are actively searching for them.

As for the victim, he is now recovering and out of the hospital.
