Head-on collision shuts down bridge in Suffolk

Suffolk, Va. – Police are investigating after a head-on collision shut down the Mills E. Godwin Bridge for over an hour early Saturday morning.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. in the 2200 block of Bridge Road on the Mills E. Godwin Bridge.

The two vehicles, a Toyota Camry and a Dodge Charger crashed, trapping both drivers in their vehicles.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue extricated the drives and they were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

It took crews close to two hours to remove the vehicles and debris from the roadway.

No other passengers were in either car at the time of the accident.

The cause remains under investigation.
