Newport News, Va. - A 21-year-old woman died after being shot by a bullet that entered her home on Circuit Lane, according to police.
Officers originally reported the killing was from a stray bullet, but a spokesperson told NewsChannel 3 on Monday night, they're not sure if it was random.
Keira Johnson was shot while she was on her bed just before 2 a.m. Friends and family held a candlelight vigil for her on Monday night.
"I'm sick to my stomach," said Zana Andrew, a friend. "I can't eat. I can't sleep. All i can do is think about her."
Friends of Johnson, nicknamed "Kiki," described her as very outgoing, someone who could lighten the mood. "Kiki was loved by everyone. If she had any problems with them, she didn't know about them," said Annastazhia Sanders, a friend.
Lena Rawlings, Johnson's mom, said she has a gut feeling, perhaps a mother's intuition, that tells her it wasn't random, but she can't explain what happened. "I don't know of any enemies of her's, but she's a 20-year old woman," said Rawlings. "I don't know everyone person she deals with in the streets."
On the front of a search warrant, it says the offense committed was murder, meaning she was intentionally killed. Documents also say police found a number of items including a DVD, dozens of pills, marijuana remnants, and a digital scale.
Police haven't made any arrests. Anyone with information on the case is asked to take action and call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
