York County, Va. – Virginia State Police are investigating after a 17-year-old boy was killed in a vehicle crash on I-64 in York County.

Troopers say the teen, Carlos Tobar, was driving west on I-64 when he exited off on the Camp Perry ramp at a high rate of speed. Tobar lost control of his vehicle, ran off road and struck several trees.

According to state police, Tobar suffered major injuries and was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Hospital. He was later transferred to Riverside Hospital in Newport News where he died from his injuries.

At this time Virginia State Police has not determined if he was wearing his safety belt, but speed did play a factor in the accident.
