Hatteras Island, N.C. (WTKR) - North Carolina's Department of Transportation announced Monday that concrete repairs on the Bonner Bridge have been completed.
The work to replace loose and deteriorating concrete on the span across the Oregon Inlet began on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
Precon Marine Inc. of Chesapeake was the contractor on the $331,250 project that repaired concrete on the underside of the bridge deck.
Portions of old concrete were replaced with shotcrete, which is shot onto the surface.
During the duration of the work, single lane closures were needed on the Bonner Bridge.
Those have now been lifted ahead of the busy summer tourism traffic season.
The concrete repairs were made at approximately 249 areas identified as priority areas during the last inspection of the bridge.
Another Bonner Bridge project to repair steel crutch bents on the bridge is slated to be finished in mid-June.
