Free fishing days scheduled for first week of June

Posted

Norfolk, Va. – Free fishing days are back! On June 5, 6, and 7, no fishing license of any kind is necessary for recreational rod and reel fishing in the Commonwealth, except in designated stocked trout waters.

“I urge everyone to take advantage of free fishing days,’’ said John M.R. Bull, head of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the agency which manages saltwater fishing. “We work hard to create and maintain sustainable fisheries and to conserve the fisheries habitat so that anglers have good chances of landing some fish. This is what our conservation efforts are all about.’’

All fishing regulations will remain in effect.

A Virginia annual saltwater fishing license costs only $17.50 for state residents. The money supports valuable fisheries work across the state.
