Man charged with sexual battery, malicious wounding after incident in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – A 48-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon after an incident involving another man and a woman.

Newport News Police say they were called to the 12000 block of Jefferson Avenue in response to a possible sexual assault.

A 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man told police that a man known to them, identified as 48-year-old Jerry Lee Franklin, came to their room to visit and attempted to sexually assault the female victim while the male victim was in the bathroom.

When the male victim re-entered the room and began to fight Franklin, Franklin took out a knife and cut the victim. Franklin then left the scene.

He was found in the 300 block of Oyster Point Road and taken into custody.

The male victim refused medical transport and was treated at the scene for a minor injury.

Franklin was charged with Sexual Battery and Malicious Wounding.
