Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell back in court for appeal

Posted

Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell was back in court today arguing that he is innocent of public corruption.

McDonnell’s lawyer told a federal appeals court in Richmond that the trial judge made mistakes in his instructions to the jury that found McDonnell guilty last fall.

McDonnell was sentenced to two years in prison after the jury found him guilty of using his office to help businessman Jonnie Williams promote his dietary supplement business. Williams gave Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen $177,000 in gifts and loans.

McDonnell’s lawyer argued that Williams got nothing in return. The appeals court did not issue a ruling today.
