Norfolk, Va. - At 112, Norfolk resident Lela Burden is officially listed as the world's 40th eldest person, and among the 15 eldest in the United States.
She also holds the distinction of being Virginia's oldest resident.
"Am I? I never thought it!" she said at her 112th birthday party.
Mrs. Burden celebrated her birthday onThursday afternoon. She had a baseball-themed cookout birthday party on the grounds of Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital where she lives. She enjoyed a hot dog, Cracker Jacks, and even had a special visitor stop by to give her a present.
Norfolk Tides mascot "Rip Tide" presented Mrs. Burden with a Tides team jersey -- number 112.
Last year, Mrs. Burden celebrated her 111th birthday with a Doumar's ice cream party. A month later, she received her high school diploma.
