Norfolk, Va. - The Norfolk Tides are Taking Action to renovate a local Little League park as part of their Facebook content to make over area youth baseball fields in need of repair.
Little League National, which is in the Tarrallton section of Norfolk, won the contest with more than 5,400 votes.
They will be getting an upgrade to their infield with new clay, improvement to the dugouts, and repairs to the bleachers.
This is the fourth year the Tides have done the contest. But this project took on a special meaning this year for the Tides and the community because this is the same field where AJ Hadsell learned to play baseball.
"Honestly, my heart is a little heavier on this field. They have gone through a great loss in losing AJ. She was a junior umpire here. They needed this, this community. This is great for them to wrap their heads around and a way for us to give back. It's unbelievable," says Tides Community Relations Director Heather McKeating.
Volunteers were out on both Wednesday and Thursday to get the field ready to play ball.
