Police identify man killed in Newport News shooting

Newport News, Va. (WTKR) – A shooting in Newport News left one person dead and another hospitalized Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Dresden Drive around 4 p.m.

Newport News police say medics were in an apartment for an unrelated call when they heard gunshots. They notified police and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 20-year-old Hampton man died at the hospital. He has been identified as Trenton Huffman.

A 25-year-old Newport News man was hospitalized with what appears to be a non-life threatening injury. He told police that he was walking in the area when he heard gunshots and was shot.

Police say that despite there being a number of people in the area at the time of the shooting, they have been unable to locate anyone that will say they witnessed the shooting or that will provide information regarding the shooting or possible suspect(s).

There are no suspects at this time.
