Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the North Suffolk Walmart Monday morning after receiving a report of a small fire in the freezer area in the deli, police tell NewsChannel 3.
Emergency Communications received the call at 11:07 a.m. saying that the store, located in the 6200 block of College Drive, had been evacuated and that there was a possible fire in the freezer area. The first units arrived on scene at 11:11 a.m.
Firefighters determined that the heat strip around the freezer door in the deli section had malfunctioned. The small fire was out upon their arrival and power was secured, police say. There were no injuries.
The store was cleared to reopen at 11:30 a.m.
Suffolk Police provided security at the scene.
