HRT invites public comment on light rail options

Virginia Beach, Va. - A 45-day comment period about plans to bring light rail to the city began on Friday.
In addition, there are four public hearings:

• Monday, April 13, 6 - 7:30 p.m. Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach.
• Thursday, April 16, 6 - 7:30 p.m., Linkhorn Park Elementary School, 977 First Colonial Road, Virginia Beach.
• Monday, April 20, 6 - 7:30 p.m., ODU-VB Higher Education Center, 1881 University Drive, Virginia Beach, Room 244.
• Saturday, April 25, 11:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Renaissance Academy, 5100 Cleveland Street, Virginia Beach.

The most talked about option right now would extend the Tide from Norfolk to Town Center. The estimated cost of the project is around $300 million.

Other alternatives would bring the light rail to the Rosemont area and two others would extent to the Ocean Front. The city council could decide on an option in May.
