Woman driving with 6 unrestrained kids in backseat charged with child endangerment

Suffolk, Va. – A 31-year-old Portsmouth woman has been arrested and charged with six counts of felony child endangerment after she was caught driving with six unrestrained children in a vehicle.

On February 28th, a Suffolk Police officer stopped a 1996 Honda Accord with defective equipment and an excessive number of passengers in the backseat.

The driver, Chanita Nikiya Britt of Portsmouth, had a suspended driver’s license.

Six children, ages 6 through 13, were unrestrained in the backseat. Four of the children were Britt’s and two were other family members.

Britt was issued a summons for Driving While Suspended and six felony warrants for Child Endangerment were obtained. She was arrested on those charges Wednesday evening in Portsmouth.
