Richmond, Va. – Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe signed a House and Senate bill Thursday that decriminalizes the use of THC oils to help treat patients who suffer from epilepsy.
With the signing of the Senate Bill 1235 and House Bill 1445, the drug may be available as early as April.
Lisa Smith and her daughter Haley were there as the bill was signed. They have been lobbying for years to make it legal in Virginia.
Many of the parents who pushed for the measures have children who suffer from Dravet Syndrome, which brings on uncontrollable seizures.
Haley had 1,000 documented life-threatening seizures in 2014.
