Virginia Beach - Police are investigating a rape that allegedly happened on the property of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church. The incident was reported to police on Friday, but church administrators were never notified about it.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, the rape happened sometime between Sept. 1, 2011 and March 3, 2014. Police say both the suspect and victim are both juveniles who knew each other.

Church officials were not informed about the rape on their property because police say the incident has nothing to do with them.

"You wouldn't notify the management of that property if it didn't involve them or someone that was associated with them," explained Officer James Cason with the Virgina Beach Police Department. "The church had nothing to do with it. It just happens to be the location given."

Virginia Beach Police are still investigating the incident and are not releasing any more details about the case at this time.
