Brush fire blazes through 10 acres of land in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, Va. – A brush fire blazed through ten acres of land off of Birdneck Road early Sunday afternoon.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department and Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire Department responded to a brush fire on on the 900 block of Birdneck Road when a passerby reported smoke around 1 p.m..  It  took several hours to put out the fire.

Officials say the fire was burning through five acres of the Virginia Beach Fire Training Center and five acres belonging to Dominion Virginia Power.

A metal shed owned by the city was damaged, but no injuries were reported.

Birdneck Road has since been reopened.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
