Norfolk, Va. - Police are investigating after a child was shot over the weekend in Norfolk.

On January 31, just after 11 p.m., an ambulance was stopped in the 1200 block of E. Princess Anne Road in Norfolk. The medics were approached by a mother with her 6-year-old daughter, according to police. The mother told the medics that her 6-year-old had been shot and that she was taking her to the hospital. The ambulance then began to transport the child to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Medics administered first aid to the child for an apparent gunshot wound on the way to the hospital.

The child was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and then transferred to CHKD with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Police say say a white sedan was at the 3400 block of Hanbury Road, as shots were fired out of a white sedan. One of those shots struck the 6-year-old, NewsChannel 3 has learned.

Norfolk detectives are actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to contact the Crime Line.
