Newport News/Williamsburg, Va. - PEOPLExpress airlines has been evicted from the Newport News/Williamsburg Airport. They were issued an eviction notice today because they owe $18,000 in utility fees from the administrative office located in the old terminal.
The fees went unpaid and were only expected to pay the utilities. They were not paid.
Back in November, $100,000 was owed for passenger charges. This is something all airlines collect from passengers.
The airline is supposed to reimburse the airport.
The total for the fees is $18,000.
PEOPLExpress has 10 days to leave this space. Their last day is February 2nd.
Today they released the following statement:
"This morning, we received an official notice from Airport Manager, Ken Spirito, that the airport is evicting People Express from its current office space effective February 2, 2015. We regret that Mr. Spirito and the Airport Commission consider it necessary to take this step as People Express is working diligently to resume offering flights, once again providing a safe and affordable air travel option for Hampton Roads travelers. People Express continues to make progress towards a resumption of service."
