The Admirals aren’t leaving Norfolk… yet

Norfolk, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals aren't going anywhere just yet, according to team vice president Joe Gregory.

The Norfolk Admirals are the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Anaheim Ducks and one of six AHL teams affiliated with west coast-based NHL teams.

It has been long-rumored that the AHL is considering adding a Western Division to expand the league out west.

If this happens, NHL clubs would want to move their affiliates closer to their headquarters – which would mean several AHL teams, like the Admirals, would be making the move west.

"They'd like their affiliates to be closer, which is understandable. We're an affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks and Norfolk to Anaheim isn't exactly close," Gregory says.

There’s no timeline for this potential move just yet, but it remains a possibility in the future.

"It could be something to talk about in the future, but right now really nothing has changed," Gregory says.

A Board of Governor’s meeting has been scheduled for the end of January where it’s likely that more talks about a move will be discussed.

Until then, fans shouldn’t worry. The Admirals still have plenty of time on the ice in Norfolk!
