Norfolk, Va. - Protestors joined hands completely blocking the intersection of Saint Paul’s Boulevard and City Hall Avenue in Downtown Norfolk at rush hour.

They wanted to show their disapproval in the police killings of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

The protest went through the streets of Downtown Norfolk caused some big traffic problems.

But things stayed peaceful.

The protest first started with about 10 people right outside of Norfolk police Headquarters on Granby Street.

But by about 4:15, it had grown to more than 50 people.

Protestors decided to block traffic on Granby Street.

Police allowed the protestors to stop traffic, but some drivers got frustrated.

As the crowd grew, they started marching. First-- going up Granby Street-- and then continuing onto City Hall Avenue.

After about 30 minutes, they circled back and went back to the police headquarters.

That's where things started to wrap up with a speaker thanking the protestors for coming and saying they controlled the city for a few minutes.

Two of the protestors there were the parents of David Latham their son was shot and killed by Norfolk police in June.

There was also a forum talking about police relations with the community.

One of the speakers was Norfolk Police Chief Michael Goldsmith.

He admits his department needs to work on gaining trust.

He says the department is trying.

Officers are volunteering more and he's working to recruit more minority police officers.

He's adamant the department doesn't treat African Americans differently, but wouldn't comment on any recent police shootings.
