Virginia Beach, Va.- A Beach family plans to move out of their apartment near Town Center after someone broke in and robbed them while they were out of town.

"There aren't words to describe just how you feel when that sense of security is gone completely," said Eve Cabey, whose family lived in their Trace Court apartment for six years.

The burglary happened around Thanksgiving when the family was on vacation in Florida. Someone went through the family's drawers, taking whatever they could: a TV, video games, wedding gifts. Someone even went through her three year old son's piggy bank.

The family is planning to move out as soon as they can. "Once your home has been broken into, mentally you don't feel safe. You're always anxious. You don't know," said Cabey.

The burglary is one of 12 near Town Center reported to police in the past month, according to the department's online crime reports. Cabey said she hasn't had a problem like this before, but now she's trying to explain it to her son.

"My son wants to know where's the Christmas tree? I want to put the tree up in a place that feels like home. This doesn't feel like home," Cabey said.
