Norfolk, Va.- A benefit concert on Thursday night raised money for the family of Brian Jones, a Norfolk police officer killed in the line of duty.
Five blues acts performed at Charlie's American Cafe on Granby Street. Organizers held a silent auction and some of the restaurant's sales went to Jones' family.
Police say a gunman killed Jones and a 17-year old boy last May. Jones left behind a wife and three young kids. Organizers hoped to raise a few thousand dollars to help the family during the holidays.
"He really did a lot for small businesses. He kind of kept a lookout for us. I've still got his number in my phone if I ever needed something," said Tim Warren, the owner of Charlie's. "It was tragic and this will be the first holiday season for them all, so we wanted to do something to make it a little easier for Brian's family."
Warren picked a blues night in tribute to police officers because their uniforms are blue.
