Two Newport News men arrested in Suffolk animal cruelty case

Suffolk, Va. -Two Newport News men have been charged and arrested in connection with an animal cruelty case based in Suffolk.

Police met with the victims in reference to an alleged animal cruelty case on October 15, 2014.

The victims said their dog, a 1-year-old female lab/pit bull mix named Luna,  was shot and killed by two of their friends.  Those two friends initially asked to take the dog to the SPCA in Newport News on October 10.  Early investigation revealed that the dog was found shot and then buried in the 1900 block of Bridge Road in Suffolk on October 11.

Police have arrested and charged Ian T. Sazama, 21 years old, of Ft. Eustis, by direct indictment with Cruelty to Animals, Maiming, Killing or Poisoning Animals, Fowl, Conspiracy  to Commit Felony, Cruelty to Animals and Discharge Firearm within 200 yards from any structure.

Also charged is 23-year-old Alexander J. Meese of Newport News, by direct indictment with Obstruct Justice/False statement, Malicious Wounding Animal, Conspiracy/Animal Cruelty and Animal Cruelty.
