Hampton, Va. - One person was rescued and five people have been displaced by an early morning fire in Hampton.

The fire in the 1700 block of Carriage Drive was reported about 4:10am.

When firefighters arrived four people had escaped and fire was visible from the first floor. The fifth person was rescued from the first floor and taken to a hospital with severe injuries. They remain in the hospital in critical condition.

A firefighter was also transported to a hospital with an injury. His injuries were non-life threatening and he was treated and released.

The fire is still under investigation and the Red Cross was requested to assist those displaced.
