Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Beach Circuit Court has appointed Michael R. Doucette, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Lynchburg, to review the allegations against Mayor Will Sessoms.
Mayor Sessoms is accused of voting on numerous projects that would benefit TowneBank, where he served as President of Towne Financial Services.
Colin Stolle, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, asked the Circuit Court to appoint a Special Prosecutor to review this matter due to conflicts that would violate the ethical rules of the Supreme Court.
Stolle provided a list of the conflicts in this matter that was sent to the Virginia State Bar, which included that his wife is an employee of TowneBank, his brother serves as a Board Member for TowneBank, Mayor Sessoms made financial contributions to his campaign for Commonwealth’s Attorney, and the fact that the Virginia Beach City Council votes on budgetary supplements for the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.
