Newport News, Va. - Investigators found a 16-year-old shot to death behind a former church early Sunday morning in Newport News.

The teen has been identified as Christopher Mullins of Newport News.

Friends tell us it happened right across the street from where he lives.

"I mean really hurt, because people out here knew him, people out here cared about him. Just funny how nobody know nothing."

Someone shot and killed 16-year-old Chris Mullins behind the Old Living Waters Fellowship Christian Church just before 8 a.m. yesterday morning.

Friends say the Enterprise Academy student got into an argument with a group of guys, then someone started shooting.

Investigators say they have very few leads as to who shot the 16-year-old, but several folks in his neighborhood said it was over nothing.

"It's not about finding out about who did this, that's the police's job when they find out who did this, then we will know. But our concern is to show people around here the community out here that we can band together when something tragic happens."

Neighbors had a candlelight vigil close to the very spot where Mullins was murdered.

"His momma is going to be there, that's the person who is grieving, hurting."

Family and friends gathered on Monday night to say goodbye at a candlelight vigil.

Police are still investigating the murder. Click here for the most recent information on the case.
