MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO – A 12-year-old Maryland Heights boy died after accidentally hanging himself on a backyard swing Friday at his family`s home. That’s according to a report from Fox2Now.com.

Ethan Ivinson came home from school as usual Friday afternoon, but was planning to go back that night.

“He was helping his dad do some chores in the backyard,” said Maryland Heights Police Chief William Carson. “He was planning to go to a school dance that evening and was doing extra chores so he could go to the dance.”

But when his dad went inside to take a phone call, Ethan began spinning on a homemade swing fashioned from a child’s pumpkin seat suspended by ropes hanging from a high tree branch. Police say Ethan got caught in the ropes and accidentally hanged himself.

Ethan’s father was already trying to give his son CPR when police and firefighters arrived, the report says.
