Norfolk Police are working to find out what happened to a man whose body was found Sunday morning washed ashore near Inlet Road and E. Ocean View Ave.

The man has been identified as 51-year-old Milton Hayslett. Officials say that approximately 12 hours before they got the call that his body was found, his dinghy was reported adrift with the engine down.

Val Justice says she discovered Hayslett's body early Sunday morning while going for a run. She says she doesn't know how he ended up there but that she wouldn't be surprised if the rough waters had something to do with it.

"We probably had, I want to say, maybe a 4-foot kind of swell out there...white caps everywhere all the way out," she says, "It would have been horrible to fight that current out there, I don't care what kind of swimmer you are."

The investigation has been turned over to Norfolk Police Department and detectives are categorizing the incident as an "undetermined death."

The Medical Examiners Office will determine the exact cause of death.
