Newport News home condemned after fire

Newport News, Va.- On Sunday evening, the Fire Department reported to a house fire in the 400 block of Ashton Green Blvd. in the northern section of Denbigh. The call came in around 6:41 p.m and crews arrived 5 minutes later.

The fire was challenging for firefighters because there were so many contents within the house on fire that had to be removed. Two additional engines were called to the scene to assist.

The fire was under control around 7:15 p.m but crews remained on the scene for several hours putting out debris.

Currently, investigators are on the scene trying to determine the cause of the fire. The home has been condemned and Red Cross is helping the two occupants of the home.

There were no reported injuries in this incident.
