Workers evacuated after fire at Amadas Industries in Suffolk

Suffolk, Va. – Workers had to be evacuated Tuesday night after a fire broke out inside of Amadas Industries in Suffolk.

Calls were received about the incident at 10:29 p.m. about smoke in the duct work. Units arrived at 10:35 p.m.

Officials say when they arrived, they found that a hopper full of metal shavings in a plasma cutter was on fire at the time. The staff inside the building contained the fire before crews arrived. Firefighters knocked down the fire.

Light smoke was showing in the manufacturing area and 24 people were safely evacuated.

The staff there is in the process of disassembling the equipment.

No one was injured.
