The Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Project team, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), will perform a single lane closure at the Route 58 Midtown Tunnel, tonight, Thursday July 10 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday morning in order to perform emergency maintenance of the drain system. Traffic will alternate in each direction in the remaining open lane.

The Midtown Tunnel drains are routinely cleaned on a monthly basis and were scheduled to be cleaned at the end of July. However, emergency maintenance is required to clear drains of excess sediment that has accumulated as a result of heavy rains from Hurricane Arthur and the severe storms that followed on Wednesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 10.

The I-264 West Downtown Tunnel overnight full tunnel closure originally scheduled for this evening has been cancelled in order to give motorists an alternate route to the Midtown Tunnel.
