Grafton, Va. - Car break-ins in a York County neighborhood ending up leading police to stolen property from three other cities.

The break-ins that led to that discovery happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Someone spotted several people rummaging through cars on Solebay St. in the York Crossing subdivision and called 911.

When deputies got to the scene, they spotted the suspect's car leaving the neighborhood, but the driver refused to pull over.

They followed them a short distance away to Oriana Road where all but one of the men took off running.

A 16-year-old was taken into custody at the scene.

While working to find the other suspects, deputies realized there was more than a just stolen purse in the car.

According to the sheriff's office, a handgun reported stolen from Virginia Beach last year was found inside the car, the license plate had been stolen from Portsmouth and the car had been reported stolen from Hampton a few days prior.

At this point, there are two people who have been charged, the 16-year-old and 19-year-old Jahlil Payne who was taken into custody later that morning.

Deputies say they know who two other suspects are but are still trying to find them, and they're working to identify a fifth person who was involved.
